About Bouldering

This daily writing challenge has been paused for a while. Though I missed it sometimes, life still moves on and gets packed with new stuff. Recently it’s bouldering. It all started with a free trial invited by my lab mate and that trial reminded me of the happy summer in 2019, when I also went bouldering with friends in Pittsburgh. After that, we’d normally find a nice restaurant for a big meal in South Side and make up for all the calories burned from the exercise. Okay I miss the Mexican restaurant and its fruity Tequila now. Anyways, I found the bouldering gym is not far from my apartment and I decided to come regularly very soon.

I think what attracts me the most is that I see my little progress every time, just as learning piano. Every time I overcome some routes that I didn’t manage to succeed from the last time. Looking back, I think lots of my motivations for other stuff in life come from the same thing. Then it’s about the experience of fear and overcoming it. Even though I’ve been going every other day for three weeks, I’m still afraid of heights and dare not to jump. Well, I hanged myself at the top for 10 minutes again today and found out it was not tall at all when I finally landed. Such fear seemed to only happen when I was a kid, but it always feels so good when I finally have the courage to jump, though sometimes I have to. The last thing I like about bouldering is the change of my body. I’ve never had abs in my whole life and I’m so surprised to see them now, though not too clearly at the moment. Also I can feel that my muscles are growing everywhere and I started to eat healthier to help them get stronger. Anyways I feel my body is really magic.

That’s all my passion for bouldering as a newbie for less than a month. Hopefully this will become a sports I enjoy in the long term and be really good at.

p.s. It’s very enjoyable to watch experienced female climbers climbing. Some of them are literally like dancing on the cliff.
